Chrono Triggerin'

Warning: here be dragons.
------

On March 11, 1995 Square released what is, arguably, the best role-playing video game of all time.

Featuring unprecedented graphic quality, depth, and replayability, Chrono Trigger spins a tale of life's epic struggle against Lavos (an alien parasite that fell from the sky in 65 billion B.C.). Through time travel, the player experiences a vast temporal landscape: from the Reptilian-dominated jungle world of the pre-historic era, to the cyberpunkish post-apocalyptic 2300 A.D., to the bone chilling "End of Time"-- a mysterious place inhabited by two creatures: an old man with the ability to view all points in history, and the Master of War, Spekkio.

Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu, and Noriko Matsueda were tasked with sculpting sounds to suit Chrono Trigger's many landscapes. I make no exaggeration in saying the result of their work was as good, if not better, than the game itself.

A trio of tunes this week. Two from OC Remix's "Chrono Symphonic" (Blue Skies Over Guardia, and To Far Away Times) and, as an added bonus, kLuTz's take on the 600 A.D. Theme.

Happy gaming. Happy Friday.
